God Is Watching Over To Reveal Himself And His Beauty
This morning as I opened our living room drapes uncovering our large floor to ceiling window, as usual I was hurrying a bit to prepare breakfast, but as I looked out, my full attention was drawn to a couple of small birds in the yard hopping around as if they owned the place! I made a full stop just to observe the scene.
Suddenly it was as if curtain had been drawn back in my soul, and I was able to SEE the beauty of the creation of God in a new way… the multiple greens of the bushes, trees, and other plants; the yellow blossoms of orchids, the coral blooms of hibiscus, the periwinkle of hydrangeas, and the flaming reds of azaleas, all combining with the plethora of birds, just filled my heart with a great joy and appreciation. Why did our God make such beauty? What is the purpose of it? True, some colors attract bees and birds, and leafy plants reward the air we breathe with oxygen, but couldn’t God have made just utilitarian objects, rather than really beautiful ones?
The verse that came to my mind was “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!” And I did bless Him for the beauty around us which lifts the eyes of our hearts up to the transcendent beauty of our Lord Himself. In fact, we are told in Romans 1:20 that God has revealed IN NATURE His eternal power and Godhead, so that people are without excuse in saying they could not know about God. It’s joy producing to think of a God who watches over us to show us His own nature through the creation all around us! Bless His holy name!
