Why Almond Blossoms?
When the prophet Jeremiah, in the Old Testament heard from the Lord one day, God said to him, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”
“I see the branch of an almond tree.”
The Lord then said, “You have seen correctly, for I am WATCHING to see that my word is fulfilled.”
The Hebrew word for Almond is “Shaqed,” which also means TO WATCH; be watchful; alert; on the lookout; and sleepless. These attributes belong in the first place to our all-knowing and all-caring God. He is the One who can at all time and in all places truly WATCH OVER His children and all His creation.
God designed the Lampstand to resemble an almond tree, on the top of each branch, was a cup-shaped almond flower that held the oil for the lamp to light up the tabernacle twenty-four hours daily, indicating HIS constant WATCHFULNESS over His people.
When this Creator God gave detailed instructions for the making of this golden Lampstand which would be in the tabernacle of His people, it became a beautiful metaphor of God’s WATCHFULNESS!
As we imagine looking at that beautiful piece of art made of solid gold with twenty-two buds and blossoms, one can’t help but think of our God, Emmanuel, not only being present with us but also reminding us of His WATCHFULNESS through the “Shaqed” branches, blossoms and buds.
The almond tree is the first tree to blossom and bear fruit in early spring, reminding us of Jesus the "firstfruits;" the very first to be resurrected from the dead, going on up into glory - 1 Corinthians 15:20.
Our Almond Blossom jewelry is to be a symbol to remind the wearer of the overarching WATCHFULNESS of our great God, and His son Jesus Christ!
Praise be to our God, “His love endures forever”
