God is Watching Over When We Give Testimony to His Work
Today I was invited to participate in an online meeting in which a very dear friend had been invited to give her testimony of her spiritual journey, and all that God has done and continues to do in her life.
As I listened to this testimony, my heart swelled with thanksgiving and joy for the great things this friend has experienced since coming to know Jesus as Lord, and giving her life totally to Him. She was so clear in how she told who she was before knowing Jesus personally, and how she is now after knowing Him. The one thing which so blessed me is that she communicated graciously how knowing Jesus Christ relieved her of all the guilt and shame she had been carrying for years, and had put within her a sure identity in Jesus Christ, her new source of life.
Her words to me afterward were, “I feel renewed and filled with the joy of the Lord, every time I share what God did and has been doing in my life.” I began to think about why it might be so that she felt the joy of the Lord and renewal in Him upon telling her testimony, and I remembered the words of Revelation 12:10-12:
“Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”
We who belong to Jesus have a mortal enemy who, if he cannot keep us out of heaven, wants to accuse us day and night to torment us with guilt, shame, and discouragement. However, just as at the end of time, this accuser will be cast down once and for all, we can even now “cast him down,” by embracing the blood of the Lamb, that is, the literal life of Christ in us; by the word of our testimony; and by not loving our physical lives so much as to shrink from death. Every time we speak the word of our testimony, we are speaking truth with which we overcome the enemy with his lies and accusations. As our Lord watches over us to bless the word of our testimonies, may we faithfully use our mouths to glorify Him for His great works in our lives.
